RPEA Chapter 9 Surf City– Santa Cruz has been serving retired public employees since 1958.

Community Support Activities

We hold fund raisers when we gather in support of organizations in Santa Cruz County that support seniors. Among the recipients are Grey Bears, Community Bridges, and Second Harvest. In January of 2023, the Chapter donated to the Red Cross Relief efforts following the flooding from winter storms. Chapter 009 has participated in the Adopt–A–Family Holiday project of the Santa Cruz Volunteer Centers for many years. We purchase and wrap gifts we select from the wish lists of the families. Since 2016 our members have donated $4,105 for 15 families, totaling 43 people.

Volunteering

Another component of community support is the many hours RPEA members spend each year volunteering. This includes time spent volunteering with hospitals, church groups, at schools, and many other venues. RPEA recently started collecting data on these hours. This is an effort to advertise the contributions retired persons make in their communities. The program is called "RPEA – CA Gives Back". If you volunteer please let us know and we will include your time and its value in our reports.
